"Scream and Shout" for Britney Spears, 'cause her heart is even bigger than her hit song! The queen of pop reportedly withdrew $100 from an ATM outside of a Los Angeles pharmacy after a homeless man asked her for help.
The next time you see someone homeless and wonder W.W.B.D. (What would Britney do?), here's how you can lend a hand:
+ StandUp For Kids
Britney Spears stands up for the homeless, and so can you! StandUp For Kids has been rescuing homeless and at-risk youth for 23 years. Support them by volunteering, sponsoring a kid, or donating to the organization at large. For just $29 a month -- way more than I spend on coffee every few weeks -- you can help provide a young homeless person with medical care, education, employment, and housing!
+ Swipe for the Homeless
Got extra points on your college meal plan? Instead of having an enormous finals week feast with your friends (food comas are a student's worst enemy!), donate your extra meal swipes to charity with Swipes for the Homeless. Founded in 2009 at UCLA and honored by President Obama as a "Champion of Change," Swipes for the Homeless partners with students and universities around the country to turn unused dining dollars into meals for the homeless. To get involved, start a Swipes for the Homeless chapter on your campus, or donate to the organizations heartfelt cause.
+ Support Homeless LGBT Youth
According to Forty To None, approximately 40% of homeless youth are LGBT, many of whom were thrown out for coming out. The Ali Forney Center has offered emergency and transitional housing to homeless LGBT youth in NYC for 10 years! "Every day youths come to us heartbroken and terrified after being driven from their homes," says the AFC's Carl Siciliano. "And every day we are forced to turn many of these youths into the streets because there are far too few shelter beds available." Donate to the AFC to help them meet their goal of keeping the drop-in center open 24 hours a day. For more ways to help, check out The Trevor Project and Forty To None.
