Up until now, "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" had been the unfortunate middle child of the popular series, the odd one-off with only tenuous connections to the movies starring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. The series' surprisingly complex chronology — the Diesel-Walker movies just caught up to the events of "Tokyo Drift" — didn't help the matter.

That was until yesterday. Deadline is reporting that Lucas Black, who played the hero Sean Boswell in "Tokyo Drift," has been welcomed into the family with open arms. The site said that Black has signed on be a new series regular with appearances already set for "Fast 7, 8 and 9."

It's a very good day to be Lucas Black.

For those unfamiliar with the weaving chronology of the "Fast and Furious" series in regards to "Tokyo Drift," let's give you a quick recap.

After two films, we left the characters that we had followed for a new hero and a new country. At the end of that film, Han, a character who would appear in subsequent installments, is killed. His death brings together Sean and Dom, or as we've come to learn, Vin Diesel winning back the rights to "Riddick."

The stinger at the end of "Fast and Furious 6" finally caught up to that ending. We saw Han go through the same encounter from "Tokyo Drift," but the assailant is revealed. It's Jason Statham as the villain of Luke Evans' character from "Fast 6," looking for revenge.

So the worlds have collided, and the hardcore defenders of "Tokyo Drift" appear to be getting the team-up they've been hoping for.

"Fast and Furious 7" opens on July 11, 2014.
