Millions of people are inspired by Malala Yousafzai's work for women's rights, and DoSomething.org and Kiva's 25,000 Women campaign gives you an opportunity help women as well.
More than half of poor people in the world (try 70%) are women, and 25,000 Women aims to change that by giving out 25,000 loans to female entrepreneurs around the world. And where do you come in? Well, the campaign is giving YOU $25 to donate to a female entrepreneur. That's right, you don't have to pay a penny, because Kiva.org is already covering that. You go on the site, and you'll see there are different women from various countries working on different careers, and you pick who you'd like to fund. You'll also see how far along the women are in getting the funds they need (like 30%, 70%, etc.).
You can also get your friends involved by giving the site their cell numbers. Just like you, they don't have to pay, and your friends will get information on the challenges women face around the world. Also, if you do this, you'll get a chance of winning a $3,000 scholarship. If you tell your friends AND give a (free) $25 donation, you double your chances of getting the scholarship. It's win-win, baby!
The hope is to get 25,000 $25 loans out to women by October 9, because that marks the one year anniversary of Malala's assassination attempt. It will show Malala that we're standing behind her and we're as determined as she is that all women have the same opportunities to succeed. Your free $25 donation can be a game changer in a women's life.
