Tyra Banks took to Twitter to shout her congrats to Nina Davuluri, the new winner of Miss America. But beyond winning the contest, a lot of people are proud of Ms. Davuluri for the classy way she handled racism thrown at her.
The host of "American's Next Top Model" Tweeted:
Congrats to @NinaDavuluri, first Indian-American Miss America! Proud of you, girl! Love, TyTy

As Tyra said, Nina is the first Miss America winner to be of Indian heritage. The 24-year-old wants to use her prize money to fund her education to become a physician, but her success was quickly attacked. In order to bring attention to the hurtful things being said, Buzzfeed began collecting racist comments people were posting about her on social media.
Some people were calling Nina an "Arab," and some were saying that because she has Indian heritage she shouldn't be eligible to win Miss America. Some people even tried to associate her with al-Qaeda and outright called her a terrorist.
But Nina was classy in how she handled such unfounded and derogatory racist attacks.
"I'm so happy this organization has embraced diversity," she said about her win. "I'm thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America."
Speaking about the racist comments out there, she said. "I have to rise above that. I always viewed myself as first and foremost American."
Physical beauty is only skin deep, but we love the brave beauty Nina is showing during these circumstances. Tyra Banks is far from the only person applauding her.
