It's time for some puppy love, and I'm not talking about the kind of puppy love you feel for the boys of One Direction! October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, where it's time to find homes for all the puppies, doggies and pooches in animal shelters! Take a look at some celebs who know adopting is the way to go.
+ Vinny Guadagnino
Vinny is a member of the MTV fam who's all about adoption and animal welfare. He recently adopted a pit bull name Tita, and when I talked to him about why he decided on adoption, he said, "I've had dogs my whole life, and we've pretty much always adopted. Honestly, having a dog in my life is not like an option for me. I've always had a dog."
+ Carrie Ann Inaba
Carrie Ann Inaba might be mostly known for her love of all things feline, but she also has a place in her heart for dogs. Older dogs sometimes have trouble being adopted, so she made the point of adopting a 10-year-old boxer with a heart condition. Older dogs need loving homes, too!
+ Ashley Greene
Last summer Ashley adopted two puppies, Ralph and Rosie. The proud pet parent shared a pic of her new babies on Instagram and said, "Today felt like a great day to rescue a puppy…Or two! I couldn't take a brother without his sister!" Any day is a good day for dog adoption!
+ Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez adopted her puppy Baylor from an animal rescue center, and she also encourages others to go the adoption route. She's Tweeted her support of Island Dog, which helps dogs in Puerto Rico get homes. Even if you live in the U.S., you can still adopt dogs through this org, so check it out!
+ Kellan Lutz
Kellan has a rescue dog named Kola, and he doesn't beat around the bush about how important she is to him. "I saw this dog . . . she was in the cage with another, bigger dog, just scared. You can feel the pain that they go through. . . She wanted a home." It was love at first sight, and also gave Kellan an awesome BFF: "Kola is my best friend."
+ Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has been pushing boundaries and showing off her wild side lately, which might distract people from the fact she is a MAJOR animal lover. Miley is a big believer in adoption and has adopted her little babies so they can have a second chance.
+ Kristen Bell
Puppies and healthy dogs are the easiest to find homes for, so Kristen makes the point of adopting dogs that are seen as less desirable. "I go for special needs dogs," she said. "[My rescue dog Sadie] was 11 at the time and was missing most of her teeth. She also needed ear surgery, which was performed before she was put up for adoption. Her right ear opening had to be closed, and the doctors rerouted her ear canal into the right side of her neck. Now she hears through her neck! ... Sadie's extremely affectionate."
+ Ryan Gosling
Ryan adopted his beloved dog George at the Los Angeles Pound in 2000. He's called George the love of his life (okay, who's jealz?) and said during an interview, "George is way more interesting than I am. I'd much rather talk about him." If Ryan can find someone more interesting than him in a pound, you know where you can look for a real treasure!
+ Jake Gyllenhaal
The paparazzi loves catching pics of celebs, and more than once they've gotten one of Jake taking his rescue dog Atticus on a walk. Atticus came from the LA shelter and since then the two of them have become pretty much tied to the hip.
+ Kelly Clarkson
The Clarkson house hasn't just been a home . . . it's been a rescue center. Speaking about her love of animals (and making sure those animals get homes) the American Idol said, "It's like a rescue ranch now. We have 30 dogs, 14 horses." Okay, so most of us don't have the space, money, ability, etc. to properly care for 30 dogs, but even just adopting one helps if we all adopt. Who's ready for some puppy love?
