We love celebs who speak out for their favorite causes (it's kind of our thing). But it's even more inspiring when celebs use their star power to shine a light on causes that have personally affected their lives. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, here are eight celebs who are doing their part to raise awareness for the cause.
+ Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is a mother, actress, and badass activist, so it really should have surprised no one when she turned a troubling discovery into a moment to raise awareness about breast cancer. Jolie, who underwent surgery to have a preventative double mastectomy earlier this year, said she felt "empowered" by her choice. She made it clear that she didn't feel like "any less of a woman" after the surgery, and she even went advocate for more testing opportunities for women in low- and middle-income communities.
+ Brad Pitt
You can't have "Brangelina" without Brad, so it's only fitting we include him on this list. In her editorial, Jolie thanked Pitt for being nothing but "loving and supportive" while she made her decision. The actor made a point to be by his partner's side during every minute of her surgeries, and Jolie credits to experience to bringing the two of them closer together. As Jolie wrote, anyone who "has a wife or girlfriend going through this" needs to know that "you are a very important part" of the process.
+ Emma Stone
When she's not making us cry laughing, Emma Stone has us in tears for a completely different reason. Stone's mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, and since then the actress has been dedicated to speaking out about breast cancer. As a spokesperson for Revlon, Stone even appeared with her mother in a campaign for the company that promoted breast cancer awareness.
+ Andrew Garfield
Brad's not the only guy who made this list by supporting the love of his life. Andrew Garfield, our favorite web-slinging Peter Parker, has been nothing short of spectacular when it comes to supporting the cause that is so close to his girlfriend's heart. Wherever Emma went to promote breast cancer awareness, Garfield wasn't far behind. In fact, he even walked an event with her over the summer! Hopefully the actor inspires all the other guys out there to go above and beyond to support their girls' favorite causes.
+ Stephen Amell
Stephen Amell might play a superhero on the CW's "Arrow," but the actor doesn't just fight villains on screen. His mom is a two-time breast cancer survivor, which has inspired Amell to take up the fight as well. When he's not slinging arrows on TV, the actor dedicates his time to bottling and selling his Nocking Point wines. A portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold goes to, fittingly, an organization called F*CK CANCER.
+ Christina Applegate
Like Jolie, Christina Applegate's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Even with her family history, Applegate said she never "in a million years" thought it would happen to her. After finding something odd during a mammogram, Applegate had a lumpectomy and then got tested for a BRCA gene mutation, which drastically increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Applegate tested positive and opted to have a double mastectomy. In the five years since her diagnosis, Applegate has worked to make sure other women have access to testing. She even founded Right Action for Women, which helps "high-risk young women who are uninsured" and others who can't get insurance cover the cost of testing for the gene mutation.
+ Rob Lowe
Both his mother and grandmother lost their battles with breast cancer, so Rob Lowe is intimately familiar with the devastating effects of the diagnosis. The actor recently visited the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he shared his story with the patients and staff. This is nothing new for Lowe, however. The actor has been raising awareness about breast cancer for years, and he was even named the first male spokesperson of the Lee Jeans' National Denim Day in 2000.
+ Giuliana Rancic
If you've watched E! News or tuned in to a red carpet event over the past few years, there's a good chance you've been dazzled by host Giuliana Rancic. Viewers anxiously watched her struggle to get pregnant, and we were as shocked as she was when a pre-IVF mammogram revealed that she had breast cancer. In the years since her diagnosis and double mastectomy, Rancic has worked overtime to raise awareness about the cause. She even founded Fab-U-Wish, a program through Bright Pink that works to grant the "most fabulous wish" of women diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer.
