"Catfish" hosts Nev and Max have teamed up with MTV Act and MTV's campaign against digital abuse, A Thin Line, to create Over The Line Confessionals — a series of Q&A sessions with the online relationship experts. In today's video installment, the fellas tackle what to do if you get cold feet before meeting an online friend for the first time.
+ Watch Nev and Max Discuss What To Do If You're Getting Cold Feet
If you're getting cold feet, it may be because of the uncertainty of meeting up with a stranger. The best way to rid yourself of some of your worries is to play it safe. "This is one of those situations where you should Skype with the person first and make sure that they are who they say they are," says Max. "I would also take some time to look at their social network pages... and just kind of spend a half hour reading down the posts and making sure that the person is real... and that they're connected to real friends and real family."
If you feel comfortable enough to meet your online lover or friend in real life, do it in a public place and bring a friend along. Nev stresses the importance of trusting your gut saying, "If something's telling you not to do this, maybe there's a good reason for it." Safety should always come first in your physical and digital relationships.
