There is no doubt Justin Bieber has taken over the world, but now he is ready to take it to the next level -- space. Yep, the 19-year-old singer has booked a flight on with Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic. Many may laugh this off, but we came up with 3 reasons why supporting space travel is worthwhile.
+ Environmental Purposes
On Earth, we are using our environmental resources faster than Kim Kardashian posting selfies (no judging). With the amount of fossil fuels (like coal and oil) that we use up, the planet as we know it is at stake. Through space exploration, we can easily track climate change. For example, according to NASA's website, a major component of their Earth Science Division is "a coordinated series of satellite and airborne missions for long-term global observations of the land surface, biosphere, solid Earth, atmosphere, and oceans. This coordinated approach enables an improved understanding of the Earth as an integrated system."
+ Cure Diseases
Yes, this may sound a bit crazy, but space exploration can actually help in developing drugs to help many diseases. According to the Virgin Galactic website: "The ability to travel suborbitally and experience periods of near-zero or 'microgravity' can enable a range of valuable scientific experiments currently performed by sounding rockets or at great cost using the long duration space station or space shuttle. Microgravity science can address problems such as protein folding which is instrumental in developing designer drugs to combat a host of diseases; and designing new materials for transportation, computing and biomedicine."
+ Space Tourism
In the past, space has just been visited by a select few astronauts. Thanks to Branson, Bieber and a slew of other passengers testing it out for us, we get closer to making it an actual everyday thing. Never woulda thought Justin would be a pioneer in that regard, did you?
The list of reasons why we should continue to support space exploration could go on and on. Not only does it create more jobs here on earth, but the benefits beyond our globe present so many new opportunities that could help make our future brighter.
