Photos: (Fedoras For Fairness)
Fedoras aren't just for hipsters, y'all! Julianne Moore, Rosie Perez, Cynthia Nixon, and John Leguizamo are among the many celebs rockin' Bruno Mars' favorite kinda hat in the Fedoras For Fairness immigration reform photo project.
As the Senate weighs in on immigration reform in the coming weeks, We Belong Together's Fedoras For Fairness campaign is using fedoras -- "an iconic unisex American fashion accessory" -- as a symbol of support for immigration legislation that treats women and LGBT families fairly. Many of the celebs involved are using their own family stories to get the message out, and even those whose immediate families are not immigrants recognize the importance of the cause. "Not all of us came through Ellis Island," says Golden Globe-winning actress S. Epatha Merkerson. "But ... I understand that, for many, America represents freedom."
Our government's upcoming decisions will hopefully create a fair pathway to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants living in this country. Legislation that takes women into account is extremely important as so many of them uproot their lives for the betterment of their children and families. Legislation that takes LGBT families into account is crucial as so many couples are kept apart by immigration laws that require legal marriage.
To join the movement, take a picture in your fave fedora, and post it to your Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Pinterest accounts with the hashtag #fairdora. Being a hipster has never looked so good!
