Liam Hemsworth is striking out on his own after riding the coattails of Miley Cyrus and Katniss Everdeen for a while with the new thriller "Paranoia."
The film, based on the book of the same name by Joseph Finder, tells the story of a down-on-his-luck kid from Brooklyn, who is just looking for his chance to make it big and provide for his ailing dad. That's when the totally trustworthy Gary Oldman comes along with an offer.
Oldman wants Hemsworth to infiltrate his competition, played by Harrison Ford, and the exec bankrolls a "Pretty Woman"-style makeover for his new protege, which basically amounts to him putting on a suit. You can barely recognize him! Right, Amber Heard?
"Paranoia" looks like your average thriller, but it will be interesting to see if people turn up for a Liam Hemsworth movie. He's pretty much untested and doesn't have the power of Thor to back him like his brother.
We'll see how it all shakes out when "Paranoia" opens in theaters on August 16.
