Amy Poehler wants you to change the world by being yourself. That's the premise of the online community she's built over at Smart Girls at the Party, and the site is full of ways to do just that. One of our favorite installations is "Ask Amy," a YouTube channel dedicated to our favorite smarty-pants answering reader questions. Last week Poehler shared her thoughts on break-ups and volunteering which put our girl-crush into serious overdrive!
One reader's awesome dad encouraged her to volunteer as a way to get over a breakup, so she turned to Poehler for advice. In the video, Poehler talks about why it's good to "get out of your head" and "get out of your comfort zone" when going through something like that. Like the girl's dad suggested, volunteering is an awesome way to do just that! So why does the actress think volunteering is such a good idea? She explains that it can "expand your horizons; you can meet interesting people; you can feel good about giving your time or your energy or your money" to a cause.

If you're ready to head out and volunteer but aren't sure where to start, Poehler has some advice for you, too! She recommends figuring out what excites you or angers you then go out and "fight for or against those things." That passion, she says, teaches us so much: "who we are and what we want our world to look like." So follow Poehler's lead and go find out who you are and how you want to change the world for the better. For more ways to get involved with giving back, take action below.
