As far as fan armies go, The Echelon is pretty incredible. The dedicated phans, fans who are also rock star philanthropists, have been known to rally behind any and every cause 30 Seconds to Mars champions.
The members of The Echelon have built homes and planted trees in Haiti, partnered with other fan armies to help a boy named Luca, and built a well to provide a community in need with clean drinking water. Incredibly, the fans have banded together on their own as a way to show their love for 30STM; they've created organizations and projects, including Echelon Donates, All Echelon Help, and This Is A Call To Arms, to further focus their efforts on making the world a better place.
So what drives The Echelon to all of their good deeds? To find out, we sat down with frontman Jared Leto to get his take. In the video below, he explains why he thinks the band's devoted fan army has such heart:
+ Watch Jared Leto sing The Echelon's praises.
Like Leto says, the fans are partly inspired because they've seen the work that the band does to give back, but it's also because of the community itself. The singer explains that "any time you find community, there are a group of people who want to spend a great deal of their time and energy helping others."
With that in mind, there's no reason all fan armies can't morph into phan armies! If you want to get involved with some of The Echelon's causes, check out the action widgets below.
