Now that summer is here many people are hitting the beach, but while the sand and waves are so best, the ocean is not in the best shape. Keeping with her Twitter work of spreading awareness on important issues, Sophia Bush shared an alarming fact about the well-being of marine life.
The actress Tweeted:
A MAJOR issue for our oceans RT @Oceana: 9 out of 10 large predatory fish are nearly gone: http://t.co/EYuYP06rGW via @envdefensefund

Though Oceana is only 12 years old (The same age as Willow Smith!) it's already become the globe's biggest international org that's all about helping the seven seas. It works to prevent things like offshore drilling and overfishing. While it's made major progress in a short amount of time, the crazy statistic Sophia shares shows that A LOT more needs to be done.
If Sophia's Tweet is getting you all riled up have no fear: she's also provided two orgs you can get involved with: Oceana and Environmental Defense Fund. EDF, like Oceana, is big on helping the world, but they concentrate on environmental issues that affect land as well as sea.
Getting involved could be as easy as adding your name to petitions on their sites, so that people in power realize THIS MATTERS to the general public. You could also donate, or check out ways you can take action with our widgets below. Because wouldn't hitting the beach this summer feel sooooo much better if you knew the ocean's situation is improving?! Let's avoid a bummer summer for all!
