Chicago's Barrington High School had the best day ever last Friday, after a video highlighting its students' awesome charity work won them a visit from Rihanna!
Sponsored by MOXIE, the Shine Bright Like A Diamond contest was created to recognize schools whose students are all about philanthropy. BHS won for raising millions of dollars and working countless hours for the betterment of their community and others. In the last school year alone, Barrington's students volunteered for over 45,000 hours! Their initiatives range from saving a historic theater, to military appreciation, to annual trips to South Dakota to work with and learn from the Native Americans on the Crow Creek Reservation. Even BHS' teachers took NOH8 photos for the school's gay-straight alliance.
MOXIE is all about keeping music in schools, and brings it to them in the form of free music, artist interviews, listening parties, and…RIHANNA! Here's to hoping BHS has the best day ever, 'cause they truly shine bright like diamonds.
P.S. The pop star arrived hours late, but, you know, I'd like to think it was because she was busy rescuing a kitten from a tree.
