This past weekend at the box office proved once again that it's hard to beat a colorful, computer-animated family film.
"The Croods," which tells the story of caveman family, led a surprisingly strong weekend at theaters, taking in $44.7 million and earning the top spot. The action flick "Olympus Has Fallen" with Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman earned a respectable $30.5 million and a second place finish.
"Spring Breakers" expanded to 1,000 screens over the weekend and added $5 million to its total. Though the numbers may seem small comparatively to the wider release of the week, consider that the indie film from director Harmony Kornine cost only $2 million to make.
