Did you know Lauren Conrad's parents didn't let her watch MTV until she was 16 years old?! Sounds cray, considering it's been ten years since we caught our first glimpse of LC on our televisions. We've watched our favorite California blonde transition from one reality show to another, write seven books (all bestsellers, natch), and launch two clothing lines -- all while maintaining the cool, girl-down-the-beach vibe that we've grown to know and love. In honor of her 27th birthday today, here are four reasons we're glad LC's parents didn't keep her from becoming one of America's favorite California gurls.
+ She's On A Natural High
Lauren partnered with Natural High and let us all in on what keeps her motivated to stay drug-free: designing beautiful clothes. With two clothing lines -- Paper Crown and one for Kohl's -- we bet Lauren is on top of the world these days. We're all for LC doing whatever makes her happy, especially when her participation could influence others to stay away from drugs. Call it a win-win: she keeps turning out amazing looks and we get to cop them!
+ LC Fights Breast Cancer

Lauren is known for her ultra-feminine looks, so it's no shock she'd love the idea of a "pink tie" event for a good cause. She hosted the 2012 Design for the Cure Gala on behalf of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, where she wore one of her Paper Crown designs. Homegirl even dressed up a group of Breast cancer survivors in custom made Paper Crown dresses. Pretty in pink, indeed!
+ Lauren Is Totes Eco-Friendly
Lauren grew up helping keep her local beaches clean, which means living an eco-friendly lifestyle is in her bones. This year, she designed a line of sustainable lifestyle products for BlueAvocado, which made her line the "first celebrity portfolio designed entirely to reduce waste and conserve natural resources." LC might just be the next major name in the eco-friendly design game: she's even been working to incorporate more eco-friendly fabrics into her clothing lines!
+ She's All About The Pura Vida

Fans of Lauren's blog know she's a big supporter of Pura Vida bracelets. For every bracelet sold, 1% is donated to The Surfrider Foundation. Pura Vida also works to help find jobs for local artisans in Puerto Rico, which means you can help the local community and save some beaches at the same time. We shouldn't be surprised a style icon like Lauren would know the best way to accessorize and give back at the same time!
