This weekend's box office results stuck closely to the expectations of a soft set of January openings. None of the new releases fared particularly well, with "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters" being the only debut to stand up against the returning movies.
The revisionist fairytale took in a modest $19 million against a reported $50 million budget, while "Parker" and "Movie 43" did much worse.
Jason Statham played the latest iteration of the classic Donald Westlake anti-hero in "Parker," but he did not live up to the legacy, collecting only $7 million, good enough for a fifth place finish.
The ensemble comedy "Movie 43" opened to a rough $5 million, coming in at seventh place for the weekend.
