Regardless of how the "Star Wars" fans of the world felt about J.J. Abrams signing on to direct "Star Wars: Episode VII," it was arguably all bad for "Star Trek" fans. With Abrams going to off to play with bigger, shinier toys, the Trekkies of the world seemed to have lost the leader that brought them out of darkness and back into the mainstream (and then back "Into Darkness").

But Rob Moore, the Vice Chairman at Paramount, says that Abrams isn't saying goodbye to "Star Trek" from the other side of pane of glass just yet. The exec told Hero Complex that Abrams will (read "is contractually obligated") be involved in a third "Star Trek" movie, at the very least as a producer, leaving the possibility of directing open.

"J.J. will continue to develop projects for us including a new 'Mission: Impossible,' and he is committed to produce another 'Star Trek,'" Moore said.

As Moore referenced in his quote, "Star Trek" is not the only Paramount property Abrams is currently tied up in. He's also spearheaded "Mission: Impossible" since directing the third installment in the series and directing "Ghost Protocol." A fifth "Mission: Impossible" is rumored to be on the way from "Jack Reacher" director Christopher McQuarrie.

With "Episode VII" scheduled to hit theaters in 2015 at the earliest, Abrams will have his hands full for quite a while, and if Paramount wants a quick follow-up to "Into Darkness," expect a "From producer J.J. Abrams" credit to be in front of the trailer.
