A few days after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary we wrote about an opportunity through Love Is Louder to sponsor a sign to support the Newtown community. The message was clear: Love Is Louder Than Violence. This week, Love Is Louder debuted a new video, Standing Strong with Newtown.
+ Watch "Standing Strong With Newtown"
The video begins with a voiceover introduction by Love Is Louder cofounder (and awesome "Pitch Perfect" actress) Brittany Snow set to Kelly Clarkson's inspirational song "The Sun Will Rise." The video chronicles "how a community and its supporters from around the country joined voices to say LOVE IS LOUDER THAN VIOLENCE."
In the first half of the video, Kara Whipkey, a Newtown resident, explains what drew her to the cause. Whipkey reached out to Love Is Louder because she remembered seeing the movement's messages after the Virginia Tech shooting when she was only a freshman at the college. Yes, Kara has lived through two shootings in her life. "We will prevail through tragedy and love is louder than violence," she said in the video.
The second half of the video features an original song written, produced and performed by a group of Newtown residents to show their support for their friends and neighbors. The song plays as beautiful photos of support flash across the screen. People from all over the country sponsored Love Is Louder signs, and the org brought them straight to Newtown. In the video, you can see Newtown residents putting the signs up all over town.
The signs have been delivered, but there is still work to be done in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shooting. President Obama just introduced his 23 executive actions in response to this and other shooting incidents over the past few weeks.
