Ke$ha loves her animals, and I'm not just talking about her millions of fans! The queen of grunge and glitter also has a big heart for the king of the jungle...and she wants you to join her in helping lions!

Her link explains the disturbing reality that the wild population of African lions has gone down about 50% percent in the last thirty years. There might only be 23,000 of these big cats left! That's why the Human Society International and other orgs are backing a petition to have the African lion listed as "endangered" in the Endangered Species Act.

The HSI also reports that the amount of lion trophy imports to America is getting bigger. Lion trophy refers to lions killed for the prize of an animal trophy, usually the skin or mounted head of a lion. Ooof, right? If the lion is included in the ESA, it would make lion trophy illegal. Being on the list would also spread awareness of the situation.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is going over the stats on lions right now to decide if they'll officially call the species endangered. They welcome public comments, and that's where the petition from HSI comes in.
