From casting rumors to production updates, Disney movies have been a fixture in headlines lately, and today, the studio is making things official by slapping release dates onto a few of its upcoming flicks. Among them is "Pirates of the Caribbean 5," which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 10, 2015.
The follow-up to 2011's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" only recently got itself a new writer in Jeff Nathanson, who also penned Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can." While a director has yet to be announced for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced sequel, Johnny Depp is still attached to reprise his role as the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow.
And as promised, that's not all, folks. Still in the process of rounding out its cast—which currently includes Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and a rumored Tina Fey—"The Muppets 2," also got a wide release date of March 21, 2014. Following close behind with a summer release of July 2, 2014, is "Maleficent," the revisionist fairy tale starring Angelina Jolie in the titular villain role. The spin-off movie, which follows the "untold story" of the evil "Sleeping Beauty" sorceress, also stars Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton and Juno Temple.
And perhaps the most mysterious of them all is the sci-fi film "1952," which will probably remain mysterious for a good while, since Damon Lindelof is on board as co-writer and producer. George Clooney headlines the film, which will be helmed by Brad Bird and premiere during the holiday season on December 19, 2014.
How excited are you for these Disney releases?
