To coincide with the debut of the first "Evil Dead" footage at New York Comic Con, the first image from the upcoming remake has hit the web.
Let's be honest: it looks great. Fans who saw the new footage at NYCC said that it was over-the-top gory and scary, and we get a taste of that in this image, which comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Here we see leading lady Jane Levy looking a bit different than she usually does. Maybe she won't survive as long as we had anticipated when we learned that Levy would be playing the movie's main character.
Levy plays Mia, a woman struggling with her sobriety who gets taken to a remote cabin by her brother and his friends to help her cope with her issues. We're sure the original plan wasn't to then read from the Book of the Dead and lead to a bunch of supernatural problems. One of them seems to circle back to her, as we see Mia chained, undead and imprisoned in a basement in this new photo. Take that image with you the next time you go camping.
When we caught up with original "Evil Dead" director Sam Raimi at San Diego Comic-Con, he admitted that he really likes what Fede Alvarez has done with the new film.
"I just think Fede Alvarez has really made a great horror movie," he said. "It's scary. The actors are great in it. It's really gut-wrenching, real low budget and intense."
"Evil Dead" is due in theaters on April 12.
