It's time to learn about overcoming yin with yang.
In a new exclusive clip from the upcoming Chinese movie "Tai Chi Zero," we see some very well equipped villagers beating up an array of soldiers with the help of vegetables. It's clear from the get-go that this isn't our average martial arts movie, but the flick looks ridiculous and fantastic nonetheless.
This isn't quite at the "Shaolin Soccer" level of comedy, but "Tai Chi Zero" is much closer in tone to that movie than it is to something like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." The martial arts shown in this clip are pretty impressive, even if they're used in a somewhat joking manner. We're probably going to be thinking about this clip the next time we walk down the vegetable aisle in our neighborhood grocery story.
Directed by Stephen Fung, this film follows the gifted Yang Luchan. Yang as a mysterious horn that comes out of his forehead which gives him special powers, but which draws ridicule from his peers. After enduring years of mockery, Yang's mother sends him to find the legendary Chen Village where he can learn the art of tai chi from Master Chen. After being humiliatingly defeated by Chen's daughter Yuniang, Chen dedicates himself to training Yang while disguising his identity. Meanwhile, a railroad construction project threatens Chen Village.
"Tai Chi Zero" comes out October 19.
