We wouldn't consider ourselves in a superhero overload right now, but it is nice to have other movies that aren't about caped (and suited and masked) crusaders to look forward to. That's why we're so thrilled for movies like "Prometheus," "Snow White and the Huntsman" and John Hillcoat's latest, "Lawless," to finally hit theaters.
The latter doesn't come out until August 29, but two new clips for the Depression-era crime drama have hit the web that make us wish it was coming out this Friday. The scenes continue the drama that was set up in the first trailer released, namely the tension between Tom Hardy's Forrest Bondurant and Guy Pearce's Special Deputy Charlie Rakes and the relationship between Forrest and his younger brother Jack, played by Shia LaBeouf.
It was clear from the trailer that the one of the two main sources of conflict in the movie was going to come from the Bondurants bashing heads with Rakes, so it's interesting to see a scene with the two of them speaking civilly (for the most part). Based on this clip, Hardy looks like he's going to give a powerful performance, though Pearce will likely steal the show.
The second clip features our favorite line from any of the "Lawless" promotion so far. LaBeouf's Jack was beaten up by some unnamed assailants, and Hardy's Forrest explains to him how he can prevent it from ever happening again.
"It is not violence that sets men a part. It's the distance that he is prepared to go," Forrest says. "We are survivors. We control the fear. And without the fear we are all as good as dead."
"Lawless" also stars Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Mia Wasikowska and Dane DeHaan.
