We're not just seeing same-sex marriages happening more and more in the United States -- we're seeing them happen in comic books! Yup, there's a big comic book world out there with all sorts of things happening, and it was recently announced that Astonishing X-Men #51, which is due out next month, is going to have two men getting married.
Characters Northstar and Kyle first became a couple in the Marvel universe in 2009, and three years later they've decided to get hitched. It's the first time Marvel Comics is having some of its gay characters wed (because, believe it or not, Marvel has a number of gay characters), but it's not the first same-sex wedding of the year coming from a big comic book name.

In January, Archie Comics released Life with Archie #16, which has Riverdale character Kevin Keller marrying his boyfriend. The issue quickly sold out! Archie Comics didn't beat around the bush, either -- the cover shows the happy couple, plus a sign that says, "Just married!" so that everyone who saw just the cover would know what was going on.

There are quite a few LGBT characters in comics books -- from Marvel's Shatterstar to DC's Batwoman, not to mention all the LGBT characters from smaller comics publishers. If you're into your Japanese entertainment, you'll know that manga stars a lot of LGBT characters. The comic book world isn't just a bunch of superheroes going around fighting interestingly named bad guys. Comics can reflect what's happening at the present, and they can also point to where we're going.
