After the feminist punk band Pussy Riot held a musical, nonviolent protest against Russian president Vladimir Putin, some of the members were put in prison. This caused an international outcry on the women's behalf, and now there are concerns for the life of Pussy Riot member Nadezhda (Nadya) Tolokonnikova.

In September Nadya released an open letter about the abuses people have to face at the prison where she's staying. She also announced that she would be going on a hunger strike until something is done about this. She was forced to end her hunger strike yesterday, after being transferred to prison hospital.

Nadya's family and lawyers have not been allowed to see her, and this might be punishment for her blowing the whistle on prison abuses. The fact that she's not allowed these visitors is against international law, and it's being reported Nadya's health is so bad she's been hospitalized.

The Voice Project, an international human rights group, has filed an appeal in an attempt to help Nadya. Meanwhile, work is still being done to help all the members of Pussy Riot. You can donate to the Pussy Riot Support Fund, and you can also spread awareness on this issue through social media. The more attention is paid to this — and the more the outcry builds — the better it is. That will put pressure on the people in power who can do something to help Nadya and her bandmates.
