It's been almost four months since the first trailer for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" appeared before our eyes, and since then the summer movie season distracted us from the fact that the second installment of Peter Jackson's prequel trilogy was quickly approaching.
And here we are, nearly two months away from "The Desolation of Smaug," and it's time to get excited for a return trip to Middle-earth. The middle portion of J.R.R. Tolkien contains some of the book's most iconic imagery, including the spiders of Mirkwood Forest and Smaug's cave of gold. There's also Gandalf's side story, which can play out at any speed Jackson and his writers desire.
We'll get another look at the second installment tomorrow, when the second trailer debuts at 9 a.m. ET. MTV News will have the trailer as soon as it goes live, so stick right here. Until then, enjoy the new banner, which teases trouble in the woods for Bilbo and the gang.
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens on December 13.
