There's still two months to go until the second part of Peter Jackson's "Hobbit" trilogy hits theaters, but the new trailer is a bevy of riches worthy of Smaug's stash. Here's a look at ten can't miss (and blink-and-you'll miss) moments from the just released two minutes and twenty-eight seconds:
Mirkwood – Home to an Elvish tribe, Mirkwood is a stronghold against the encroaching danger of Benedict Cumberbatch's Necromancer.
"How Do You Know He Won't Betray Us?" – That's Lee Pace's Thranduil, King of The Elves flashing his dreamy eyes at us. And seems like our dwarven heroes don't trust him – possibly with good reason.
Lonely Mountain – Man, that mountain sure does look lonely. It's also the former home of the dwarves, current home of Smaug, and site of the culmination of our heroes' quest.
He's Baaaack – Looks like Azog, arch-enemy of the world's hunkiest Dwarf, is back and ready for Orc-powered vengeance.
Also, He's Back – Legolas, the elvish archer who launched a thousand bad haircut decisions in the wake of "Lord of The Rings," returns for the second "Hobbit" movie.
Also, His Back – That's Thranduil warning Evangeline Lilly's Tauriel to stay away from Legolas. Guys, there's no time for romance with a dragon on the loose!
Luke Evans As Bard The Bowman – In case you thought there weren't enough archers in this movie, don't worry! Evans also plays an archer.
Lord Of The Ring – Bilbo seems somewhat stricken by finding his ring in this scene... Have things already started to go bad?
"My courage." - ...So bad that Bilbo almost tells Gandalf... And then doesn't.
Does Whatever A Spider Can – In Mirkwood, our merry band runs into massive spiders, all descended from the monstrous Shelob.
Beorn Free? – We're not 100% sure, but this might be the bear-form of skin-changer Beorn. Or, it could just be a giant something emerging from the woods. Either way: yipes.
Dragonfire vs. Dwarf - Basically, the two just don't mix.
Thorin vs. Bilbo – Despite the events of the previous movie, seems Thorin Oakenshield still doesn't trust Bilbo to get the job done.
Sherlock Ho-no! – Maybe not the Sherlock reunion we were all picturing, as Martin Freeman's Bilbo comes face to snout with Benedict Cumberbatch's Smaug.
The Eye Of... - Last "Hobbit" movie had the killer reveal of fan-favorite Gollum. This trailer one-ups that with a split-second frame of a rather unmistakable eye, certain to send shivers up any fan's spine.
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens in theaters on December 13.
