The 2013 VMAs are almost here, and we kind of can't stand it anymore. How are we supposed to wait to see Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake take the stage and bring down the house in Brooklyn?! If, like us, you need your VMA fix STAT, get excited, because mtvU has got you. This Sunday, August 18, the network is kicking off a VMA Edition of its "Random Acts of mtvU" series.
In the immediate aftermath of the Boston bombings, Nick Reynolds, Chris Dobens and Lane Brenner printed the "Boston Strong" motto on thousands of T-shirts in an attempt to raise awareness and money for the victims of the tragedy. The Emerson College students ended up selling 57,000 shirts, and raised almost $1 million for The One Fund, which helps survivors of the attack.
On the episode, mtvU star and Emerson alum Quinn Marcus surprises the three Emerson College students behind the Boston Strong T-shirt campaign with tickets to the VMAs. On top of the tickets to what is surely going to be the best night ever, Marcus let them know that celebs like Robin Thicke, Ed Sheeran, 2 Chainz, the guys from Fall Out Boy and more teamed up to create a special video they could use as a video PSA for their shirts.
+ Watch Celebs Thank the "Boston Strong" trio.
The full three-minute episode premieres on mtvU at noon ET on Sunday, August 18, and then on MTV at 4 p.m. ET and MTV2 during the 8 p.m. ET hour.
Throughout the rest of the week, mtvU will surprise hardworking, civic-minded college students with tickets to the VMAs, a once-in-a-lifetime VMA experience with Katy Perry, shopping sprees and more. To help Nick, Chris and Lane spread the "Boston Strong" message, check out the action widget below.
The 2013 Video Music Awards air August 25 on MTV and VMA.MTV.com, live from the Brooklyn Barclays Center. No sleep til Brooklyn!
