If you've been paying attention to casting news, you knew Shailene Woodley was going to have to say goodbye to her gorgeous locks one day in the near future.
She's due to start filming "The Fault in Our Stars" in the coming weeks, and author John Green revealed today that Woodley is cutting her hair this weekend for a good cause.
Although she probably could have gotten by with a wig, we're not surprised Woodley is so committed to preparing for her role in the adaptation of the best-selling Young Adult novel. Woodley expressed early on that she would have done anything to be a part of the film, so lopping off her locks to prepare for her role as cancer patient Hazel Grace Lancaster is really no surprise.
After she heads to the salon this weekend, the actress will donate her hair to Children with Hair Loss. The non-profit organization "provides free wigs to kids who've experienced hair loss due to cancer, burns, or other medical conditions." Green was quick to point out that this was all Woodley's idea, but he wanted to share it in hopes that fans of the book will follow her lead.
If you've got 8 or more inches to spare, you can donate it to Children with Hair Loss. You'll be in good company, too. Shailene's mom has reportedly agreed to take her daughter's cue, and fans of the book have already started posting their pictures with their new, shorter 'dos! If you post pictures of your new hair on Twitter or Tumblr, make sure you tag them #hairforhazel or #itsjusthair.
We love that Woodley is going the extra mile for her part AND doing some good at the same time. For more information on donating your hair or to help young cancer patients, check out the action widgets below.
