If you're not already on board with Guillermo del Toro's new movie "Pacific Rim," then Warner Bros. is looking to enlist you. The studio released a new promotional image on Twitter that's styled as a recruitment flier for the Pan Pacific Defense, better known as the PPDC.
If you go to the PPDC website, you'll find a number of the viral "Pacific Rim" videos and blueprints for the various Jaegers that have been released up until this point. It's a cute touch, and hopefully Warner Bros. keeps rolling out more nontraditional teasers for GDT's new movie in the months leading up to its July 12 release.
Hopefully whatever continues to be released for "Pacific Rim's" promotion makes it clear that this project is del Toro's unique vision. He's been called out for allegedly having this movie be a "rip-off" of the "Transformers" films, and GDT has been very clear that it's his own creation.
"We are far, far, far away from that in a very willing fashion," he said recently. "For good or bad, this is my movie. This is my universe and my creation, and I do not create through comparison."
He continued, "The fights don't occur in well-lit, supercool, car commercial-looking environments. They occur in the middle of a raging sea storm or in a savage snowstorm. They happen in a universe that is incredibly saturated. ... And to some degree, the source of all artificial life is Frankenstein."
