It was the battle of the giant fighting robots this week at CinemaCon. While he was at the Las Vegas convention promoting "Pain & Gain," Michael Bay called out the "rip-off" robot movies that have come after "Transformers." Though he didn't name it specifically, some assumed that he was referencing Guillermo del Toro's upcoming "Pacific Rim."

For his part, del Toro doesn't think there should be a comparison between "Pacific Rim" and Bay's films. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the "Pan's Labyrinth" director defended his new, original vision.

"We are far, far, far away from that in a very willing fashion," he said. "For good or bad, this is my movie. This is my universe and my creation, and I do not create through comparison."

One obvious difference is that the Jaegers are much larger than Bay's Autobots and Decepticons. But del Toro also argued the worlds they robots are set in are much different.

"The fights don't occur in well-lit, supercool, car commercial-looking environments. They occur in the middle of a raging sea storm or in a savage snowstorm. They happen in a universe that is incredibly saturated," he said, adding of Bay's unfair comparison, "And to some degree, the source of all artificial life is Frankenstein."

Still, who would win in a fight: Jaegers or Transformers? Del Toro backed his own creations, saying his robots could crush every "robot in the history of mankind in a toe-to-toe showdown." That pretty much sums up why we're so excited to see "Pacific Rim" when it comes out on July 12.
