Sony is definitely moving forward with its sequel to "21 Jump Street." The studio announced during it's presentation at CinemaCon that the film will be hitting theaters next year.
Last July it was reported that "21 Jump Street 2" was in the works, with filming expected to begin in September 2013. Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall wrote the script, and Hill and Channing Tatum are expected to return as stars. It's unclear what the plot of the "21 Jump Street" sequel will be, but some speculate it will take Hill and Tatum's characters to college instead of embedding them in high school again.
"21 Jump Street" was one of the biggest comedies of 2012, so it's no surprise that Sony is excited to get a sequel moving forward. Dave Franco also has said he'll be back, while directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are expected to return once they wrap with "The Lego Movie."
"All I can really say is that I'm working on it," Bacall told MTV News back in March 2012. "I met with Jonah and Channing and all the producers and executives and yeah, we're looking to get it going as quickly as possible. I'm about to start the draft. I think if you've watched ['21 Jump Street'], by the end you'll have a pretty good idea where the sequel takes place."
