With the announcement of Kristen Wiig officially on board, the line-up of comedians already slated for "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" is starting to make the impressive star-power number of "This is the End" feel small.
The 2004 cult movie "Anchorman" was already chock-full of the best of the best when it comes to comedy with supporting roles from Fred Willard and Chris Parnell to the marquee cameos of Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and many more. There's no telling how much larger the Burgundy-verse will expand — but a boy in polyester suit and mustache can dream, can't he?
Looking at the rogue's gallery of McKay's players, here are some cameos we'd love to see in "Anchorman: The Legend Continues."
1. Danny McBride
Frequent Ferrell collaborator Danny McBride would be a great addition to the cast, having already played friend and foe to the lead anchor. Between Ron Burgundy and Kenny Powers, these two men have created the most fodder for quotes on college campuses in the past ten years, so why not finally have them go 'stache to 'stache?
2. Maya Rudolph
Although she had a prominent role in the original "Anchorman" before it was cut but later repurposed in for the fake-sequel "Wake Up Ron Burgundy," Maya Rudolph needs to come back in some way, shape, or form. Also, if you haven't seen "Wake Up Ron Burgundy", you should do yourself a favor and take 90 minutes out of your day to watch it now. They won't mind.
3. Mark Wahlberg
He's probably gearing up to fight some Decepticons and hang out with Justin Bieber, but Mark Wahlberg has some underrated comedy chops. Already a previous Ferrell-McKay collaboration for "The Other Guys," he'd feel right at home — especially if he grew back his "Departed" haircut.
4. Will Arnett
Maybe it's because spring seems too far away to get my dose of Gob Bluth, but that rich charismatic/maniacal tambour never gets old. Plus, as evidence by "Up All Night," Will Arnett and Christina Applegate make a great team.
5. Bill Hader
Bill Hader seems that he was born wearing a wig and speaking in a voice not of his own, so donning some facial hair and equipped with a Channel 4 microphone seems like the right fit.
6. Ryan Gosling
Another person on the list that isn't always immediately thought of when it comes to comedy, but as evidence by his appearance on Kimmel with Ferrell, these two have great chemistry.
7. Bill Murray
Hey, why not? Sure, he's a human enigma, but the man could add a nice juxtaposition of subtlety and cool to the hyperbolic world. Could he be Father Burgundy? Sorry, thought I'd pitch you my rejected idea from my Wes Anderson/"Anchorman" crossover fan-fic.
Others who could be great!
Jason Sudeikis, Uggi the Dog, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler, Human Giant, Aubrey Plaza, Eddie Murphy (It's the 80's, right?).
