For fashion-lovers, February is all about Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. For heart disease activists, the month is affectionately known as American Heart Month. Thanks to The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, the two groups came together to represent red for an important night.
On Wednesday night, some of the world's most famous faces took to the runway to raise awareness about the number one killer of women. Olympians Gabrielle Douglas and Nastia Liukin joined Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Kelly Osbourne, and Diet Coke Celebrity Ambassador Minka Kelly in rocking beautiful red dresses down the catwalk. Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen and Badgley Mischka donated their gowns to the celebs to wear for the night.

Each woman had her own reason for supporting the cause and donning a red dress. Gabby Douglas participated "because of the heart health cause…I want young girls to think about it. My advice to them is to stay active, eat healthy." Minka Kelly wanted to share the idea that every woman "can play an active role in her heart health."
But let's backtrack for a minute: you're probably wondering about those red dresses, right? Have you ever seen someone wearing a little red dress pin? If so, you can thank the team at The Heart Truth, a national campaign from the National Institutes of Health, to raise awareness for women about heart disease. The Red Dress Collection Fashion Show has been a long-standing NYFW event, kicking off the week every year since its official launch in 2003.
Even though the show is over, Diet Coke and The Heart Truth are working together to raise awareness about the disease throughout the entire month, and this year, there's a particularly strong emphasis on the digital connvo. Millions of Diet Coke packages will feature the #ShowYourHeart hashtag, inviting y'all to get on Instagram and Twitter to raise awareness for the cause. For each photo tagged and uploaded during the month of February, Diet Coke will donate $1 -- up to $100,000! -- to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health.
And remember, show your heart and don't be afraid to wear red; when we're talking about raising awareness for heart disease, it's truly a color that's a good look for everyone.
