San Diego Comic-Con is the place to be right now, and DC Comics -- the publisher of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and your other faves -- is using the con as a way to help average people become heroes. Chris Daughtry is involved, so it shows that you don't have to wear a cape or have super powers to be part of the We Can Be Heroes campaign!
Right now the Horn of Africa is suffering the worst drought it's had in more than 50 years, and DC is putting together a campaign to help by spreading awareness and donating funds to Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps.
And how is Chris involved? On Wednesday, in time with Comic-Con, he released the acoustic rendition of his song "Rescue Me" and all net proceeds through iTunes are going to help people in the Horn of Africa. On top of that, Chris has created a new piece of artwork with comic book legend Jim Lee, and 200 lithographs of it are available. If you pop in at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts Gallery (that's 363 5th Avenue in San Diego for your GPS!) on Friday between 7:30 and 8:30 P.M., there will be 50 up for grabs. You might not only get one of these lithographs, but Chris and Jim are going to be there signing them.

Actually, there's a lot you can do at that gallery. DC is putting on an exhibit there called "Darkness & Light: Art Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism" and it will be going on until July 15. The exhibit is there to teach people about the crisis in Africa and also to collect donations. Peeps not attending the con are more than welcome to check out this exhibit. This is def. a one-of-a-kind way to be a hero, and the campaign will continue on after SDCC is over.
