It's getting dangerously close to thirty years since "Top Gun" soared into theaters, but Tom Cruise isn't showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, the "Mission Impossible" actor is getting ready to jump back into the cockpit as cocky flyboy Maverick for a second "Top Gun" outing.
MTV News spoke with Cruise on the red carpet at the "Rock of Ages" premiere in Los Angeles last week, and he confirmed that he's still hard at work with director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer on returning to the skies for "Top Gun 2."

"We're working on it," he said. "We'll see what happens, if I can figure out the script and we get it. It would be fun getting into those jets. I want to get in those jets!"
The actor's latest status update isn't far off from what he already revealed in December 2011: that he, Bruckheimer and Scott were close to cracking the "Top Gun 2" code.
"I hope we can figure this out to go do it again," he said at the time. "If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot 'Top Gun.' "
Cruise is not the only one looking to get back in the air. His "Top Gun" co-pilot Val Kilmer recently told MTV that he's up for another round as Tom "Iceman" Kazanski, Maverick's rival-turned-ally in the 1986 original.
"Sure, it would be fun," the actor said when asked about his interest in a "Top Gun" sequel. "I'd have to get a haircut, but anything for the sequel!"
