"True Life: I'm Addicted to Caffeine" follows three individuals battling serious health issues due to their unhealthy dependence on caffeinated drinks.
Some of the people profiled include Adam, 26, a father of two girls who consumes close to 30 caffeinated drinks per day. He was hospitalized because of a caffeine overdose. Soon-to-be mom, Crystal, 23, suffers from kidney problems. She knows she needs to chill with the java when her OBGYN tells her she may lose her baby if she doesn't kick her caffeine habit.
It's hard to realize just how much caffeine you're consuming, and addictions are for real so we wanted to share some stats and tips about caffeine addiction, a condition we didn't even know existed until watching the episode.

+According to Roland Griffiths, PhD, of Johns Hopkins University, caffeine is "the most widely used mood-altering drug in the world."
+Excessive caffeine use (more than ten 8-ounce cups of coffee per day) can produce physical side effects including:
-Tremors
- Anxiety
- Insomnia or extreme fatigue once the caffeine starts to wear off.
+If you quit cold turkey, you may suffer from caffeine withdrawal. Symptoms can include:
- Headache
- Fatigue or drowsiness.
- Depression or irritability.
- Difficulty in concentrating.
- Anxiety
So, what does the American Dietetic Association suggest you do to wean off caffeine?
- Mix decaf coffee in with regular coffee.
- Drink a latte: heavy on the low-fat milk, lighter on the coffee.
- Brew your tea for less time.
