It's #ThrowbackThursday, and chances are, your Instagram feed is full of awkward, adorable or awkwardly adorable pics of your friends and followers from back in the day. If your fave thing about Thursdays is celebrity throwbacks, we've got 'em for ya! Today: Richard Simmons. Yep. Richard Simmons.
We caught up with 65-year-old Richard Simmons on the VMAs red carpet, where he didn't look a day over 40! Although he was neon vision of physical perfection that night, Simmons was overweight growing up. He was inspired to start working out after an anonymous person left a note on his car, warning him of the dangers obesity.
Although some of his outfits are LOL-worthy, Simmons' numbers are anything but a joke. The aerobics pro has kept 100+ pounds off for over 42 years, and helped humanity shed over 12,000,000 pounds over the course of his career! And he's always werkin' it for a cause, like at last year's Dance To Conquer Cancer. Someday, Richard hopes to establish mandated, non-competitive P.E. classes at every public school in the nation. "A kid who moves is a kid who learns," he told "Good Morning America." But many kids don't move enough, either because their school or parents don't require it, or because they're afraid of competing against other, more athletic kids.
Whether you're into spandex booty shorts or not, there's no denying that Richard Simmons is an inspiration to people of all ages who aim to live healthy lives. And his fun, all-inclusive approach to aerobics just goes to show that there are many ways to do it!
