Last year generous lovers of the Jersey Shore and East Coast came together for MTV's "Restore the Shore" to help with Sandy relief. While a lot still needs to be done, we've made some amazing progress, and Architecture for Humanity is releasing info on how it's using the money you donated!
Basically, the funds MTV earned went to Architecture for Humanity (a non-profit that provides design and construction services to communities in need) to get Seaside Heights, NJ back on its feet. What did the locals need that they'd lost? In the end, it was decided the money would be best spent on a community center that would give more opportunities to locals and also bring in more tourists (and tourists in turn would help the economy, which would also help the rebuilding process). They're hoping to get the center up and running by next summer.
Architecture for Humanity gives this description: "The 3-season Events Center will be located in the heart of Seaside Heights at the reconstructed boardwalk and will provide an outdoor space for a variety of fun community activities including concerts, performances, graduations, community and cultural events, outdoor movies, and sporting events." Maybe we'll see Snooki and her fam kicking it at the center? Or perhaps JWOWW and Roger will get married there?! One can only hope!
And if you're one of the high rollers that donated $500 or more (Props to YOU.) your names will be inscribed on a plank of the newly rebuilt boardwalk. These boards will be installed this fall to coincide with the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy on October 29, 2013.
Bit by bit, we're restoring the shore but there are still many ways to help so take action with our widgets below!
