The 2013 Video Music Awards were packed full of exciting moments last night, and Ariana Grande, who performed at the pre-show, seems to feel a special affinity to lyrics from the song that won Best Video With a Social Message.
Last night Ariana Tweeted these lyrics from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's "Same Love":
No freedom til we're equal, damn right I support it

She didn't explain where these lyrics came from, but anyone who watched the live performance of "Same Love" would be able to recognize the lyrics. They come from this part of the song: "When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless/Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen/I might not be the same, but that's not important/No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it."
+ Watch Macklemore & Ryan Lewis perform "Same Love" at the 2013 VMAs.
Ariana, whose album Yours Truly is about to drop on September 3, Tweeted a few other things, like thanking fans and talking about how seeing *NSYNC made her cry buckets (okay, who didn't?). But she didn't give a whole lot of commentary on the night, making it easy to assume "Same Love" is one of the main things that stuck out to her.
Last night's VMAs showed strong support for LGBTQ rights, not only with "Same Love" winning big, but also with the words of equality spoken by Macklemore and Jason Collins. And did you hear how the audience let its approval be known when they heard these words of equality? Sounds like Ariana isn't the only one who agrees with those lyrics!
