The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and mtvU have announced the winners of the 2013-2014 Fulbright-mtvU Fellowship!

For six years the Fulbright-mtvU Fellowship has been giving studious young people opportunities to unleash the power of music on a global stage. The student's use their Fulbright-mtvU year to do musical research and create their own projects.

This year's winners are an eclectic group. Philip Babcock, a Tufts University grad, has his eyes on founding a music label in Ghana; Garret Rubin, a University of Rochester Eastman School of Music grad, wants to make a musical program to help Iraqi kids who have been displaced to Jordan; Melinda Reyes, a Georgetown University grad, is all about getting a podcast up and running in Turkey, where she'll feature local talent; Sara Skolnick, a Boston University grad, has plans to start up a bilingual webseries in Colombia.

They've got some impressive goals, and you can stay up-to-date on their progress through blogs, podcasts and vids on mtvU and online. And we've got serious faith in their abilities, especially since they got backed by Imagine Dragons, Rita Ora and Steve Aoki during the process of deciding the winners!
