Yesterday AnnaLynne McCord turned 26, and the super-kind actress used the big day as an opportunity for charity. The eighth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is fast approaching, and in lieu of gifts AnnaLynne asked that people donate to The St Bernard Project.
The birthday girl Tweeted:
SO ..I'm a nerd. I did the math--If evry1 donate 8¢ents! ea I'll make my wish of bringing another fam home come true! http://t.co/IU0JEb8CCz

The St. Bernard Project was founded to rebuild the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina. Even though years have gone by, there is still work to be done, and AnnaLynne wants to make sure a family in New Orleans is finally able to go home. She wrote, "I got involved with St. Bernard Project because of a visit I made to New Orleans 2 years after the storm. My shock at the lack of progress in the rebuild process was beyond palpable . . . SBP is about to bring their 500th family home and I want to be a part of that with your help."

AnnaLynne spent a lot of time on her b-day Tweeting about the St. Bernard Project, retweeting people talking about the charity, and thanking her activist fans for getting involved. You've really got to hand it to someone who takes a day that's supposed to be all about them and makes it a day all about helping others. But that doesn't mean her work is at all surprising: MTV Act has been covering her philanthropy for years and in February I interviewed AnnaLynne about her involvement with animal welfare and the Somaly Mam Foundation. This birthday girl deserves some extra birthday love for all the kindness she gives out each day!
