J. Cole may be a relative newcomer, but he's hangin' with the big dogs now that his second studio album, Born Sinner, took the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart last week. Well, really, he's just warming the throne for his Roc Nation boss, Jay-Z, whose Magna Carta Holy Grail will inevitably hit No. 1 this week. Regardless of who pushes more discs, both rappers are using their fame to redefine the face and voice of hip-hop.
+ J. Cole Gets Schooled
J. Cole is one of the most educated rappers in the game, having graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. John's University, while playing varsity basketball and pursuing a rap career. Phew! Yet in spite of being a fantastic student, J. thinks he could have done better. "I feel like I wasted a lot of my schooling not paying attention," he said during a recent MTV RapFix interview. "And now that I'm older, I respect smarter people way more, and I wish that I knew way more." J.'s all about getting schooled, and plans on furthering his education when he can find the time. I guess you could say he "Can't Get Enough."
+ Jay-Z Supports Marriage Equality
Much like J. Cole breaks hip-hop stereotypes by putting his education first, Jay-Z does the same by being a public supporter of same-sex relationships and marriages. "I've always thought of it as something that was still holding the country back," Jay said of past anti-LGBTQ legislation like the Defense of Marriage Act and Prop 8. "What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That's their business. It's no different than discriminating against blacks. It's discrimination -- plain and simple."
J. Cole and Jay-Z are both talented artists and phenomenal men, but only one can take the top spot! Give props to your favorite rapper by taking action below.
