As the world watched Rachel Jeantel take the stand during the Zimmerman trial, many soon rushed to criticize a young girl who was mourning the death of her close friend, Trayvon Martin.
She told Piers Morgan, "It's not that I didn't want to be there (in court). I was dealing with a lot of stress for 16 months. I was grieving."
With all the negative press Rachel had to endure we are excited to share a VERY exciting piece of news for the soon to be senior in high school! According to Michael Skolnik, editor-in-chief of Global Grind, Rachel is being offered a full four year scholarship to any HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) from radio host Tom Joyner! This is such fantastic news. After the past year of stress, pain, and chaos of this case, it's an uplifting gift to receive.
As many already know, Rachel was the last to speak to Trayvon the night of his death and a witness to the trial. On "Piers Morgan Live," Rachel gave such a compelling interview that gave me chills. When asked how she would describe Trayvon she revealed, "He was a calm, chill, loving person, loved his family, definitely his mother. And...a good friend." Regardless of your thoughts on the trial, it's never easy to lose a good friend and Rachel has stood strong through it all.
