And the first-ever People's Choice Award for Favorite Humanitarian goes to... Sandra Bullock! Sandra looked impeccable as she took the stage in her Vera Wang dress to accept the award for her fab work in New Orleans.
Since Hurricane Katrina Sandra has been actively supporting New Orleans' Warren Easton Charter High School, after the respected school was ravaged by the devastating storm and faced $4million worth of damage. This high school isn't just your regular school, these students are phenomenal according to Sandra. With a 100% graduation rate, these students truly care about their education.
When Hurricane Katrina hit, Sandra called the school to lend a hand. After being hung up on a few times due to the school thinking it was a prank, she finally convinced the school it really was indeed *the* Sandra Bullock. A check was written and the school was on the road to recovery.
At the People's Choice Awards last night, Sandra revealed in her speech about her award's opening montage, "That little clip that you saw does not even begin to scrape the surface of the amazing volunteers and humanitarians that I've come to love in New Orleans. And I'm not at all being modest when I say I don't do anything compared to what they do on a daily basis. I am simply blessed to be able to do what I do because of what you allow me to do, and that is write a check and be a really good cheerleader and that's it."
Walgreens is even getting involved! If you like Walgreens' page on Facebook, they will donate a $1 for every like. We love this new Humanitarian Award addition to the People's Choice Award! Who would be your choice to get it next year? Let us know in the comments or tweet us.
