The 2013 Oscar nominations are out, and MTV is doing a little happy dance. The documentary "Inocente" -- a slightly different version of which aired on MTV in August 2012 -- has been nominated for Best Documentary Short! "Inocente" is an eye-opening film about an artistic homeless teenage girl who defies stereotypes and turns her life around.

15-year-old Inocente Izucar is an undocumented Latina who has spent her life homeless and has a colorful and amazing talent for art. She's never lived in any place more than three months at a time. Still, she attends school -- but tries to make sure her classmates don't know she's homeless out of fear for being judged. But she's far from alone in her circumstances -- 1 in 45 American kids are living on the streets or in motels or shelters.

We've got our fingers crossed about the Oscar nom, but this is also a great opportunity to learn more about homelessness and immigration. Inocente grew up in circumstances beyond her control. Her talent, perseverance and intelligence take her down a new, better path, but some people need more help getting out of a situation like homelessness. We encourage you to check out "Inocente" and to learn more about the issues by taking action below!
