The always colorful talent Tweeted:
There was 8 separate shootings in Oakland yesterday. There is a need of guidance! Help! #WhatAShame

I would love to one day teach an after school program. They saved my life when I was growing up, kept me creative n outta too much trouble.

Kreayshawn credits her own experience with after school programs with helping her future. She's got a point -- after school programs and mentorships, or just being able to hang out with peers and friends in a safe environment, can really change a person's life. Big Brothers, Big Sisters' research has found that their "little brothers and sisters" (those being mentored by volunteer "big brother and sisters") are: more confident in their schoolwork performance; able to get along better with their families; 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs; 27% less likely to begin using alcohol; and, 52% less likely to skip school.
Does your school have an after school program you might be able to get involved with? Or is there something else similar in your community? Alas, it doesn't sound like she's started her own after school program yet ('cause I know you're all ready to sign up), but maybe you can start your own!? Her album Somethin' 'Bout Kreay was recently released, which probably has her pretty busy in the music scene right now. But this whole "volunteer at an after school program" can be a super easy and super helpful way for you to get involved. Check out a few options by taking action below.
