Bimonthly, we'll take an artist on the rise on the MTV Music Meter and, to help you discover them a little more, detail some of their philanthropic tendencies -- from Mika to Ellie Goulding. This week: Phillip Phillips!
"American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips won America's votes during season 11 of the show, and now he's taking the time to give back to America! In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the blue-eyed babe has lent his voice to various relief efforts, including MTV's very own "Restore The Shore" special. Here are a few reasons Phillip still gets our vote:
+ He Performed on MTV's "Restore The Shore" Special
Phillip performed his single "Home" at MTV's "Restore The Shore" telethon. The song's lyrics -- "Just know you're not alone, 'cause I'm gonna make this place your home" -- especially hit home considering how many people had to evacuate their residences in the hurricane. Even if you missed the telethon, you can still donate $10 to hurricane relief through our Omaze charity raffles. For $10, you'll be in the running to hang with the "Jersey Shore" cast, walk the red carpet at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, or fly to One Direction's sold out Madison Square Garden show!
+ He Covered Michael Jackson for Hurricane Relief
Earlier this month, Phillip teamed up with the adorable Staten Island PS22 Choir and Stageit.com for a 30-minute streaming concert for hurricane relief. He sang Michael Jackson's "Thriller," Oasis' "Wonderwall," and a couple of songs from his debut album out now, "The World from the Side of the Moon." Proceeds went to the Red Cross and the Stephen Stiller Tunnel To Towers Foundation, whose hurricane relief funds are helping rebuild the neighborhoods hardest hit by Sandy.
+ He Has Two First Names
Call me conceited, but words cannot even begin to describe how much I like the ring of "Alexandra Alexandras." Join Phillip Phillips in rebuilding America by taking action below.
