Alicia Keys is on fire! Literally! Her fifth studio album, Girl On Fire dropped today, while its first single of the same name stays steady heatin' up the airwaves. Alicia Keys has 14 Grammy wins and has sold over 30 million albums, but her greatest accomplishments to date have less to do with how many awards she's won, and more to do with how many lives she's touched.
Here are a few reasons why A.K.'s had us "Fallin" since she hit the scene in '01:
+ She Keeps The Children Alive
Alicia's Keep A Child Alive foundation is dedicated to providing treatment, care, and support to children and families in Africa and India affected by HIV/AIDS. According to the foundation, 16.6 million children have lost their parents to AIDS. Alicia is doing everything she can to give these kids a fair shot at life in spite of their difficult circumstances.
+ She Sings For Sandy Relief
On 12.12.12, Alicia will join Kanye West, Paul McCartney, and more for the Madison Square Garden Concert For Sandy Relief. Hurricane Sandy is estimated to have caused $30 billion in economic loss, and the aim of the concert is to raise funds to rebuild the lives and businesses that were hardest hit by the storm.
+ She Speaks Out Against Human Trafficking
Alicia recently lent her voice to mtvU's Against Our Will Campaign, which features poems written by human trafficking survivors read by celebs like Keys, P!nk, and Jada Pinkett Smith. "Modern-day slavery is real. Whether it's sex trafficking or labor trafficking, in which people are being made to work brutally long hours with no pay, it's happening right in our backyards and it's heartbreaking," Alicia wrote in an open letter on the Huffington Post.
